ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING (March 14, 2010)
When the first tremors of the earthquake in Haiti rocked the island nation, UMCOR staff were already in the country, strategizing how United Methodists could help improve the lives of the people there. Their work is a direct result of the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, which supports the operating expenses of those who bring healing and help in our name. It makes it possible, when we respond to an emergency like Haiti, to know that 100% of our gift goes directly to where the suffering is happening.
MISSION CENTRAL FEATURING “MISSIONS NEAR AND FAR”
EARLY TAX DEDUCTION FOR HAITI RELIEF PASSES CONGRESS “This legislation is an additional incentive for Americans to contribute,” Finance Committee Chairman Senator Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, said in a statement. The Haiti Assistance Income Tax Incentive Act passed unanimously in the Senate. The House unanimously adopted a similar bill. President Barack Obama will sign the measure into law, said White House spokesman Josh Earnest. The legislation allows taxpayers to claim charitable contributions to relief efforts until March 1, 2010, as deductions on their 2009 tax returns. |
