NTRAL HAS SUNDAY SCHOOL AND VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM
ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING (March 14, 2010)
When the first tremors of the earthquake in Haiti rocked the island nation, UMCOR staff  were already in the country, strategizing how United Methodists could help improve the lives of the people there.   Their work is a direct result of the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, which supports the operating expenses of those who bring healing and help in our name.  It makes it possible, when we respond to an emergency like Haiti, to know that 100% of our gift goes directly to where the suffering is happening.

MISSION CENTRAL FEATURING  “MISSIONS NEAR AND FAR”
Mission Central will host several events throughout 2010 that will feature "Missions Near and Far". Speakers will be invited from ministries that are housed at Mission Central or partner with it.  Each event will feature two ministries: one that reaches out locally and one that is involved in mission outside the U.S.

The first event will be on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 from 1-3:00p.m.  From 1-1:45p.m, there will be a presentation about Bethesda Mission, which does so much in our local area to minister to those in need.   Warehouse tours will be available; light refreshments will be served; and door prizes will be drawn from 1:45-2:15p.m. The second presentation will feature a speaker from Arms Around Africa from 2:15-3p.m. This organization has established a school and a clinic in Sierra Leone and regularly provides humanitarian aid to the people of that country, which is one of the poorest in Africa. There is no charge for this event, but baskets will be available for donations to the organizations that are featured.  Registration is not required unless you are bringing a group of 5 or more people. For more information or to register a group, contact Wanda Jacobs, Mission Central's Mission Education Chairperson, at 717-939-2993 or buddy.beetle@verizon.net..

EARLY TAX DEDUCTION FOR HAITI RELIEF PASSES CONGRESS
Taxpayers will be able to deduct donations for Haiti earthquake relief on their 2009 returns instead of waiting until 2010, under a bill approved by Congress.

“This legislation is an additional incentive for Americans to contribute,” Finance Committee Chairman Senator Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, said in a statement.

The Haiti Assistance Income Tax Incentive Act passed unanimously in the Senate.  The House unanimously adopted a similar bill.  President Barack Obama will sign the measure into law, said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

The legislation allows taxpayers to claim charitable contributions to relief efforts until March 1, 2010, as deductions on their 2009 tax returns.

IMPORTANT INSURANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Repeating an earlier announcement, effective January 1, 2010, the Conference Property Casualty Insurance Program has been moved from Ohio Casualty to Philadelphia Insurance Company.  With this change the contract with PM Associates to conduct elevator inspections required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been discontinued.  This has caused some confusion as PM Associates is sending letters to all churches offering to continue this service for a fee.  The cost for elevator inspections is included within the insurance premium for the 2010 policy year and will be performed by Philadelphia Insurance Company or their designated inspection company.  Please contact Margie Follette at 1-800-627-3732 extension 227 or email her at mdfollette@ehd-ins.com  or fax to 610-280-0703, with your elevator inspection expiration date.  This can be found on the inspection certificate which should be located inside your elevator or other lift devices.
